Collecting Society

Collecting society refers to a body created either by private agreements or by statute to represent copyright owners and manage their rights in copyright works. The society may have the authority to license copyright works to the public on behalf of its members and collect licence fees paid by individuals and groups for the use of those works. The society distributes these licence fees to its members as royalty payments. Copyright Agency, Screenrights, APRA AMCOS, ARIA, PPCA, and CCLI are all collecting societies.
